Etsy Handmade Dayton Show "BLOOM"

What a busy Saturday we all had.
Our local Dayton Etsy artist had a
spring show called
BLOOM.
It was supposed to be an outdoor garden event but cold temps and rain forced us to switch gears and move inside.
over 20 ladies had their handmade items displayed all over, event creator Julie C's (Steph's Jewels)house.
Sorry the photos do not do every ones items justice but please visit the ladies shops via their links!
We have such wonderful talent here in
Dayton, Ohio!

This is what happens when your hubby leaves town.

My husband went to Fl. to get our daughter set up with a car so she could get to and from work since she is staying in Miami for the summer.
This is how I spent my weekend off!
                                    Before   and After
I love the change.
It was a hard decision because it has been that color all my life but the red just didn't go with the rest of the room.
Not sure who decided on the original finish on this wood wall and painting the bricks.  Maybe it was like that when my Grandparents moved here.
I like to keep things original but this time I went with what I wanted.
I got these new valances from work.
Not a good thing to be surrounded with inspiration all day.

Woops, haven't taken the plastic off the door yet.
Just part of living in an old house.  It's really cold here today again anyway.  I am chomping at the bit to get out and plant some flowers!

I know it looks like a granny room, but I love it and it soothes me when I come in here.

See all those books?
I still have to read most of them.
Just so you know,
almost all of them came from library and garage sales.

I have worked very hard getting the house cleaned, organized and decorated since I had so much free undistributed time to myself this weekend.  I can be very productive without anyone being around.
I am not sure how I will ever deal with retirement.
I love my husband but 24/7?
I don't think the TV has been off for this many days in a row ever!

New Vintage Quilts

At one of my handmade art shows I met a lovely woman who appreciated all the items I made from rescued vintage quilts.  She told me she had 100's and wanted to know if I would be interested in purchasing any?

Are you kidding?

Since I have finally gotten a full time job and our cash flow is a bit better, I gave her a call and she agreed to bring me several to see if any of them would work.

These are the ones I thought I could re-purpose the best.
The top one is made of men's suit material. Very interesting. I can see a nice bag made of this.
This poor thing did not withstand the wear it got but there are nice parts left. I usually don't go for heavy, dark quilts but this one just seemed to have nice potential.
I really liked this small quilt made of more men's shirts and darker cottons.

This bow tie quilt was a sure thing.
I love the look of the fabric after the stitching and fabric draw up when washed.  So cozy!  I know the edge is worn but look at how it was sewn and the hand stitches are so awesome.  You couldn't get me to take the time to hand stitch something this big and I don't want to be a snob but there is just something about a true handmade quilt as opposed to a machine quilt.  I guess that is what draws me to these wonderful heirlooms.
Someone took a lot of hours lovingly making these quilts and I just want to honor them by giving these works of art new life.

 Purple!
My favorite color.
This one needs TLC. Someone used it to cover something rusty.  Lots of dirt but I am hoping a soaking and the sunshine tomorrow will help them fade away.
 Feed sack fabric!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can you see the coarseness of the fabric.  These are my favorites I think.
I would love to see the general store with all the feed stacked up in these fabrics.
For some reason I just can't imagine the men loading up the wagon with pretty bags of fabric to take to the barn.
Who ever said women didn't have influence?
They might not have been able to vote or held high power jobs but what a woman wanted she got!
Today I'm wishing I could go back in time and have quilting, crochet etc as part of my daily (duty).
I would like to keep my modern plumbing and internet though :)

I am joining Nick of Time's Vintage-style treasures linky party. http://knickoftimeinteriors.blogspot.com/2012/04/knick-of-time-tuesday-30-vintage-style.html
Come join the fun!

Ants and Cookies..Yum

I don't know about you, but I don't care to see these in my house.

especially if there are more than 2 together.
That usually means
there are more

Today when I stopped crafting to have a cup of coffee
I thought I'd have a couple of cookies too.

Well
4 to be exact

I ate 2 while I was photographing my latest pillows to put in my Etsy shop.

I didn't look at them I was to busy

I went back to my desk to get the 3rd one and as I picked it up I noticed several small ants crawling on my cookies.

actually I had taken a bite of the 3rd cookie when I saw the ants on the 4th one.

AHHHHHHHHHH!
As I spit out the bite I tried not to swallow the saliva instantly being produced before I could make it to the sink to wash out my mouth.

I did not see any ants come out but I wondered how many I might have ingested with the first 2.

I really tried not to think about it.
I just kept thinking of all the yucky stuff Andrew Zimmerman eats and knew I would survive.

There were only 2 ants on the 2 cookies on my desk but still, that is enough to give me the willies.

Remember to always look at your food first!
